I’m writing these posts in a public space rather than a private one on a principal of courage. I work on and off in a academic circles concerned with tourism, migration and integration and the practice of community. I’ve a partner and four children and too much of my time is spent in community activism of one sort or another. I’ve called it pasdelasbas because I’m not from where I am and pas de la bas means not from over there in bad French and I was many years an expat in France. A class expat in Britain before that, not at home anywhere and then a national outsider after that. Now I am at home anywhere – at least that’s how I feel when the sun is shining and the weather is hot. So not all the time. But I’m not from over there.
